What is Hatha yoga?

It is yoga for health. It teaches you to stretch, strengthen and focus your mind on the task at hand. The practice is based on the interrelationship of mind body and spirit. It is sometimes referred to as meditation in action.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. The good news is that you start where you are. The poses are often individualized to each person’s body type and special physical needs.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move freely in. T-shirts on top and tights, sweats or long shorts are common choices. Bring layers if you tend to get cold easily.

Yoga is best practised in bare feet, so leave your shoes at the door.

I am already fit. What can yoga do for me?

Fit people learn a new way to feel and experience their bodies. Yoga is infinitely more than a complete exercise program. It is a way of being that frees the mind and strengthens awareness and concentration.

I have chronic pain. Can I do yoga?

Yes, regardless of how serious your pain is, rehabilitation and progress toward recovery are possible. Instead of simply ‘learning to live with it’, you can regain control of your life and free yourself from pain and disability.

Will yoga help reduce my stress?

Yoga stretches and relaxation techniques can be powerful tools for coping with stress. By changing the way you perceive and respond to a stressful situation yoga can help you in the workplace as well as your daily life.

How often should I practice yoga?

How often you practice depends on the individual. Yoga can be practiced daily. The more regularly you practice the more noticeable the benefits. If practicing daily it is a good ides to incorporate at least one restorative practice into your weekly routine.

I am pregnant. Should I do yoga?

Yoga is generally considered beneficial during pregnancy, however it is recommended to check with a physician before starting any new activity. Some poses are contraindicated during pregnancy. Be sure to tell your instructor so they can guide you to the appropriate modifications for your individual needs.

Will yoga help me lose weight?

When combined with a healthy lifestyle, the practice of yoga will help your body find a natural, balanced weight. If you are looking to yoga for weight loss, be sure to include attending some active classes in your schedule.

Which class is best for me?

That depends on your intention for coming to yoga, your current level of fitness and your prior yoga experience.

Can I drop in and try a class?

All classes now require advanced registration.

How do I know what level to attend?

When can I start?

Anytime. Classes are ongoing.

Do you offer private sessions?

Yes, excellent for people with injuries and special circumstances, looking for one-on-one guidance from an experienced instructor. Please contact us for more info.

Cost: $80 plus GST (per hour)

Do you provide props?

We offer a variety of yoga props for sale including:
mats, belts, blocks, bolsters, straps, and various other items for sale.

Parking:

  • Parking for classes at the Yoga Centre Winnipeg is street parking.
    After 9 am there is generally ample street parking on Grosvenor.
    If not, there is also street parking on the nearby neighbourhood streets: Yale, Dorchester, Macmillan, Wentworth are all within a 5 minute walk.
